Spend the afternoon with us exploring pine needle basketry!
In this class, you’ll learn how to use coil basketry methods to make a small Ponderosa pine needle basket. Allie will show you how to harvest and prepare the pine needles, create a spiral around a juniper wooden center, build the basket walls, and secure the border. We'll discuss the origins of pine needle basketry and design ideas for your own future baskets. Through this class, you'll learn how to forage pine needles and create your own baskets. We will provide all tools and materials. Students will also receive a take-home kit to make an additional pine needle basket independently. No experience required. Ages 12 and up.
A little background info on Allie, your instructor:
At an early age Allie learned to make things by hand, using what nature abundantly offered. Currently, her primary focus is teaching people how to sew and weave. She's enamored with natural basketry, tapestry weaving, and botanical dyeing. And while she enjoys a quiet day working on these projects, what lights her up most is sharing this knowledge with others. You can explore her work at allieolson.com
